The vehicle was located by police and firefighters on its side with a woman and a baby inside. The baby was secure in a car seat, police said at the scene. Vernon police estimated the child to be less than a year old.
The car was exiting the complex and police think the woman had briefly turned to tend to the baby, a department spokesman said. The car seemed to have shifted just enough to clip a decorative rock at the end of a traffic island, he added.

The car then overturned, leaving debris and part of its rear bumper in the road.
Responders pulled the baby from the wreckage, still alert and still secure in the car seat. The woman walked to an ambulance under her own power. Police said the injuries seemed to be minor at worst.
