Bear Warning Issued In Vernon Monday
"Bears are up and looking for food," Vernon police said.

VERNON, CT — A bear alert has been posted in Vernon.
Vernon police made the announcement Monday evening.
"Bears are up and looking for food," said police, who added several bird feeders have already been taken down in the Tunnel Road, Foster Drive and Gardener Road areas.

"Please remove bird feeders and secure trash, pet food and any other outdoor attractants," police said. "If you are having issues with bears or other wildlife, please contact Vernon Animal Control."
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection tracks black bear sightings. Residents can click here to report them.

Bears have been spotted in every town in Connecticut, according to the DEEP. The 2025 annual bear report says that it 2024, bears were reported from 159 of the state's 169 towns and cities.
