Betty Rein, 86: Opened Rein's N.Y. Style Deli-Restaurant in Vernon
Rein and her late husband Robert opened the deli in 1972. She recently passed away.

Betty (Gabrielson) Rein, 86, of South Windsor, beloved wife of the late Robert P. Rein, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Buckingham Estates in Glastonbury, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Elizabeth, NJ, daughter of the late Gustav and Jennie (Anderson) Gabrielson. Betty grew up in Elizabeth, NJ and graduated from Baton High School with the class of 1945. She was married to her husband Robert (Bob) in 1946 and together they settled in New Jersey, where they raised a family.

In 1965 they relocated to Connecticut, and in 1972 opened Rein’s N.Y. Style Deli-Restaurant in Vernon. Along with her family, Betty was instrumental in building the business. She will be fondly remembered by many customers and present and former employees for her vibrant personality and incredible work ethic and as a mentor and a role model.
She enjoyed gardening, traveling and was a talented artist and former professional model. She leaves her daughter, Bonnie Shebat and her husband John of Rocky Hill, and four sons, Rickard Rein and his wife Sally of San Antonio, TX, Gregory Rein and Eric Rein, both of Vernon and Todd Rein and his wife Mary of Ellington. She is survived by her sister Alice Vaticano of CO and many nieces and nephew.

She also leaves her grandchildren Sara Hovatter and her husband Justin, Matthew Weir, Jennie (Rein) Galindo and her husband Luke, Christopher, Michael and Matthew Rein, Katie and Sophia Shebat, Paige (Shebat) Gardner and her husband Ben, Blake Shebat, Cole Shebat and his wife Ashley, Laura and Jessica Rein, Andrew Rein, Megan (Rein) Mindek and her husband Stephen, Maria and Anthony Rein, and her great-grandchildren Austin, Charlie and Madeline Hovatter, Jack and Charlie Gardner, Evelyn and Parker Shebat, and Marie and Nikolas Mindek.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Esther Gabrielson and Dorothy Morrison. Family and friends will be received at the Ladd-Turkington-Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd, Vernon, on Friday, March 20, 2015, from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2015, 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
