Bond Cut In Half For Arrestee In Fourth Of July Melee In Vernon — But It's Still A Half-Million Bucks

VERNON, CT — The bond for a man facing 21 criminal charges stemming from a domestic violence incident on the Fourth of July at a Vernon apartment complex was cut in half Monday in Rockville Superior Court, but it's nevertheless a half-million dollars.

Jerry Jolifils, 38, remained in custody on that $500,000 bond Tuesday morning and is expected back before a judge on July 20, judicial system records show.

At 7:10 p.m. on July 4, officers responded to the Springville Mills complex at 155 West Main St. after a reported domestic disturbance escalated into an assault outside the building, police said.

Officers determined that an adult female, a 2-year-old child, and another woman who intervened had been assaulted, according to an updated incident report. Several bystanders assisted the victims before police arrived, according to an updated incident report.

The three victims were transported to Rockville General Hospital for evaluation and treatment, according to an updated incident report.

Jolifils fled toward the Hockanum River, which flows adjacent to the complex, and initially ignored police commands to stop before being taken into custody following a brief pursuit.

• Interfering with police
• Two counts of second-degree threatening
• Second-degree breach of peace
• Disorderly conduct
• Second-degree strangulation
• Criminal attempt at Second-degree strangulation
• Three counts of risk of injury to a chils
• Three counts of first-degree unlawful restraint

He was held over two nights on the initial a $1 million bond.
