'Boom' Heard In Vernon Saturday Remains A Mystery

The cause of a loud boom on Saturday night in Vernon remains a mystery.

VERNON, CT — The cause of a loud boom on Saturday night in Vernon remains a mystery.

The booming sound could be heard clearly at about 10 p.m. along Interstate-84 corridor and from at least a mile away. The sound resembled an explosion.

Vernon police said they received calls about it from the Bamforth Road area, but no distinct deterimination could be made by investigating officers.

A spokesman from Eversource Energy said no disturbances showed up on the utility's system at that time and day.
