The driver was to appear in court Monday, police said.

VERNON, CT — The blood alcohol content of a box truck driver caught barreling down West Road in Vernon last week registered nearly twice the legal limit, a police report indicates.
Details of the May 12 incident were released Monday.
At 11:47 p.m. that night, an officer on patrol witnessed a box truck traveling at 60 mph on West Street near the Peterson Road Intersection. That's a straight patch of pavement in front of the girls lacrosse field at Vernon Center Middle School and the speed limit is 40 mph. It's also a short distance from the police station.

An officer pulled over the truck and the driver, a 39-year-old West Chester, PA, man, smelled of alcohol, according to a police report. He then failed field sobriety tests and eventually tests showed a blood alcohol content of .15, well over the state legal limit of .08, according to a police report.
The driver was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, driving unreasonably fast and a lane violation, police said. He was to appear in court Monday.
