Registration Open for Safety Town 2012
Teaching safety basics to Vernon's pre-kindergarten kids for the 41st year.

The Vernon Junior Women's Club and the Vernon Police Department are sponsoring the 41st year of Safety Town for children entering kindergarten this fall.
Safety Town is a one-week class where pre-kindergarten children receive safety instruction in preparation for elementary school. The program, conducted by Vernon Junior Women's Club and taught by a state-certified elementary school teacher, runs for two weeks this summer. The program touches on traffic safety, fire safety, bus safety, bicycle safety, an awareness of the dangers of poisons and medicines, and awareness of strangers. Activities include using a 911 simulator to learn how to call for help in emergencies, riding the Big Wheels around the "safety town" to practice recognizing street signs, and taking a short ride on a real school bus.
This year, Safety Town will be conducted at Lake Street School in Vernon. The sessions will be held July 9-13 and July 16-20. The morning session is 8:30am-10:30am and the afternoon session is 11am-1pm. Registration costs $20 per child.
