The Anti-Diversion Campaign

“Salon Exclusive Distribution”, “Genuine Products Guaranteed Only in Salons.” If you look on any of your Redken products – and probably other professional hair care items – your bottle should have either one of those statements on it.  So how are Redken products popping up on drugstore, grocery store, and big box store shelves?? They are “diverted.”  “Why is it so bad??” you may be asking yourself.  A lot of times, they lure you in with seemingly amazing coupons… but beware.

Redken warns on their website that “diverted products can be counterfeit, diluted formulas, or old, expired formulas that may not be safe to use.”  These diverted products may not give you the results it is advertised to, or worse, cause infection or irritation.  Redken’s site lists unauthorized sales outlets (those selling diverted products) as “any mass retailer, any mass discount store, drug store, grocery store, online purchases from non-L’Oreal Professional Salon Products websites or various product websites.”

This is an illegal thing!! Products end up on the shelves of these places from people who are solely interested in profit.  In other words, they do not care about your health or any risks that could possibly come from the use of these products.  Plus, the real kicker, they are usually more expensive! Redken takes this SO seriously, they have developed a high tech tracking system on their products and offer rewards to those who turn diverted retailers in…!

So – what’s the point in all this?? Buy from your local salon!  You will receive knowledgeable advice on what products to use to best suit your hair, and when you buy from a salon, it helps fund stylists continued education efforts… which makes your service even better!
