Vernon to Decline?
Vernon's property values fell 9.2 percent and we allegedly have a "bottom 30" school system. Unless citizens who support schools and investing in Vernon become active, Vernon may decline.
When you combine Vernon’s 9.2 percent drop in its property values with publicity about it having one of the 30 worst school systems in the state you can see that Vernon is at risk of becoming a community in decline.
There appears to be a politically active minority in Vernon for whom small tax increases are more important than property values and schools. Budget increases that cover neither the cost of inflation nor repairs or improvements have been the rule in Vernon for nearly seven years.

Towns that have reinvigorated themselves invested in their schools and culture. With our support, the new Arts Building will be an important addition to our town's cultural offerings.
Vernon’s situation is not hopeless. But citizens who want our town to thrive, who support schools and maintaining property values town-wide, will have to become more active if Vernon’s decline is to be avoided.
