Vernon residents are invited to drop off a single burnable item at the Transfer Station free of charge on Saturday, May 4, 2013; and on Sunday, May 5.
Mattresses and boxsprings are not permitted.
A permit and punchcard are not required. However, proof of Vernon residency must be shown, Public Works Director Robert Kleinhans said.
Other items that may regularly be dropped off at the Transfer Station free of charge are waste motor oil and anti-freeze, electronics (including televisions), lead acid batteries, and any item that is at least 75 percent metal.
Disposal of freon units would require a permit and punchcard, Kleinhans said.
In addition, excess refuse and recycling may be dropped off free of charge, year-round.
Normal hours for the Transfer Station located on Hockanum Boulevard are Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.
