Assumption College, Worcester MA

  • The Assumption College Student Government Association (SGA) has announced that Lily Vartanian, of Vernon, has been elected to and is serving as Senate Speaker and Senator of the Class of 2020 during the 2019-20 academic year. The Student Government Association is the governing student body on campus, representing all undergraduate students. The purpose of SGA is to advocate for students and give voice to their opinions to enhance students' experience and encourage their participation in extra-curricular activities. Their work is guided by a constitution and by-laws.

Dean College, Franklin MA

  • The School of the Arts at Dean College will perform Wonderful Town, beginning Wednesday, Nov. 20 through Sunday, Nov. 24, 2019. Noah Moulton of Vernon will have a principal role in the production in the Dance Ensemble. The production will take place in the Main Stage in the Campus Center at Dean College, 109 West Central Street, Franklin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday - Saturday and 2:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

  • The women's swimming team at Eastern Connecticut State University began its 24th season of competition this fall 2019 semester. Among the student athletes on this year's team is Tegan Ruschmeier of Vernon, who majors in Elementary Education and English. This is Ruschmeier's third year swimming as an Eastern Warrior.

  • Goodwin College announces 627 students achieved Dean's list status for the summer 2019 session. Dean's List inclusion requires a student to earn a minimum 3.5 GPA, the equivalent of an A- average, during a given academic session. The student must also be enrolled in a minimum of six academic credits to qualify. Students from Vernon who made the Dean's List were Tonya Bailey, Sara Barlow, Rosaly Cruz, Susan Harris, Jennifer Mueller, Jennifer Murphy, Vanessa Nelson, Lisa Pho, Alexis Pleva, Morgan Sankow, Marsha Smith, Kayla Thompson, Genevieve Ufongene and Alexa Walcher.

University of Hartford, West Hartford CT

  • Seven members of the Hartford women’s soccer team combined to take home nine All-Conference and All-Academic Team honors from the America East, including sophomore Izzy Lachcik, who earned a spot on the America East All-Academic Team. Lachcik, a midfielder from Vernon, is enjoying a breakout season for the Hawks. She is tied for first with four goals to rank fourth on the team with a career-high eight points. In the classroom, she holds a 3.94 GPA as a biomedical engineering major.
