The single most pressing issue facing our state is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it: Health and financial implications of the pandemic Maintain current state-mandated coverage for pre-existing conditions, pass workers compensation for essential workers who contract COVID-19, provide public option health insurance plan, expand Medicaid coverage. Help people with complex unemployment issues. Continue to make people aware of food, PPE and financial resources.
What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post? I have a history of working hard, and successfully, advocating for the needs of my constituents
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job? Legislation I alone proposed has become law (i.e. Contracting Standards Board). Legislation I helped push became law ($15 minimum wage, family medical leave). Through legislation, had signs advertising the Vernon Historical Society, the New England Civil War Museum, Strong Farm and the Vernon Arts Center put on state roads (Routes 83 and 30) around town.
Do you believe Connecticut needs reform when it comes to electric utility oversight? What steps, if any should be taken? Yes, changes are in the works. PURA will be given the additional authority and time it needs to properly oversee utility companies in the upcoming special session. Public ownership of public utilities is a long-term consideration. As a member of the Energy and Technology Committee I advocate for households and small businesses.
What steps should state government take to bolster economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic for local businesses? Use federal funds we've received to help pay overhead costs for small businesses. My family makes it a point to support Vernon's small businesses.
List other issues that define your campaign platform: Maintain progress towards no state income tax on Social Security and pensions (almost halfway there). Obtain workers compensation coverage for PTSD for medical first responders and corrections officers (already passed for police).
What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions? I work extremely hard, full time, to solve your problems with state government.
