Car Skids Off Ramp And Into Tree In Vernon

VERNON, CT — A suspected drunken driver went skidding over a corner, into the woods and into a tree last week in Vernon.
State police issued a report on the incident this week.
The crash took place at 9:34 p.m. on Dec. 28, according to a state police report.

State police said a 2021 Mazda Cx-5 went off the Interstate 84 eastbound ramp at Exit 66. The car veered into a wooded area and hit a tree, state police said.
The driver, a 35-year-old Vernon resident, fled the scene on foot and was tracked down and detained by Vernon police, according to an arrest report. State police then took over and administered a field sobriety test, which the driver failed, according to an arrest report.

The driver was not injured, but was then charged with a lane violation and driving under the influence, state police said.
