Car Takes Out Pole, Starts To Burn In Vernon

VERNON, CT — A car took out a utility police and began to burn in a crash in Vernon Tuesday night, fire officials said.

The crash at 10:47 p.m. on Hatch Hill Road.

When fire crews and police arrived at the scene, they found a utility pole split in half with the vehicle involved further down the road, authorities said.

A small fire was visible in the engine compartment, authorities said.

The occupant of the vehicle was alert and conscious and was assisted out of the vehicle before being taken to an ares hospital, fire officials said.

The fire was quickly extinguished with a portable extinguisher.

Fire and Vernon police remained at the scene while an Eversource crew repaired the broken pole, fire officials said.
