Celebrated Author to Visit VCMS
The visit is part of the 25th Connecticut Children's Book Fair, sponsored by UConn.

VERNON, CT — Carol Weston, author of the "Ava Wren" series and "Speed of Life" is scheduled to visit Vernon Center Middle School to meet with teachers and students on Friday, Nov. 3 as part of the 25th Connecticut Children’s Book Fair.
The fair is slated for Nov. 4 and 5 at the University of Connecticut from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Connecticut Children’s Book Fair is an event organized by the UConn Library and The UConn Bookstore and takes place in the Rome Commons Ballroom at the South Campus Complex. Admission is free.

Weston is the author of 16 fiction and nonfiction books and the “Dear Carol” advice columnist at “Girls’ Life” magazine since 1994. Her latest book, Speed of Life (Sourcebooks Jabberwocky 2017), is described as “perceptive, funny, and moving” by The New York Times Book Review.
During her visit to Vernon Center Middle School, Weston will meet with teachers and then discuss her books and writing with about 700 students.

Activities during the Connecticut Children’s Book Fair will include authors and illustrators discussing their latest books, craft workshops, life sized board games, and storytelling throughout the two-day fair. Storybook characters walking around the fair to greet visitors will include Clifford the Big Red Dog, Biscuit the Dog, Mouse from If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and Curious George.
On Saturday, UConn’s Neag School of Education will conduct a workshop aimed at helping elementary and middle school teachers incorporate writing and reading into their curriculum in new and creative ways from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Rome Commons.
