Center Road School Parking Lot Work Nearly Done After Water Leak
The leak was discovered last week.
Repairs to the parking lot at Center Road School could be finished today - Tuesday - after work to fix a water leak is completed, Public Works Director obvert Kleinhans said on Monday.
Four spaces in the lot, which can get chaotically busy during the morning drop-off and afternoon pickup periods, remained coned off on Monday. Weather-permitting, a crew from VMC Construction on Bolton Road, can tidy up and close the job, Kleinhans said.
The leak was discovered last Tuesday at the south section of the lot near the Vernon Community Arts Center by a custodian, Kleinhans said. The leak was not in the main pipe, but in a connecting pipe that runs from the main line to the school, said Michael Purcaro, the director of business and finance for the local school system.
Because it was not part of the main line, the school system is responsible for the work, Purcaro said. He did not have a final price tag on Monday.
School work was not disrupted by the leak, Purcaro said.
Workers began fixing the leak as students were being dismissed from classes on Tuesday. A police officer came to the scene to direct traffic.
School was dismissed on Wednesday after a half-day and students were off on Friday for the Thanksgiving break.
The work also involved the sidewalk along Center Road near the school, Kleinhans said.
