VERNON, CT — A defendant in a pair of Vernon sexual assault cases has been arrested for the second time in six months after what a warrant describes as more inappropriate actions affecting children.

The listed victim in the Feb. 5 case involving 56-year-old Andrew Curtis is an 8-year-old autistic boy, according to a warrant.

A case worker from the state Department of Children and Families contacted Vernon police after the boy began exhibiting sexually inappropriate behaviour that included touching staff members at his school, according to a warrant. He apparently witnessed inappropriate touching on the part of Curtis with a 14-year-old girl and was acting it out, according to a warrant.

Curtis was charged with risk of injury to a child and posted a $50,000 bond. He is due in court on April 26 for that and his other active cases, police said. His bonds now total $150,000, records show.

Police were clear on Tuesday that the investigation is still active.

On Sept. 17, Curtis was arrested on two warrants covering six charges related to sexual assault and illegal contact with young girls, police said. He was charged with three counts each of fourth-degree sexual assault and illegal sexual contact with someone younger than 16.

The latest warrant suggests incidents invovled the 14-year-old-girl and the 8-year-old boy was present for some of them.

Curtis has spent time at homes on South Street in Vernon and on Kibbe Road in Ellington, according to police. He currently lives on Hartford Turnpike in Vernon, according to police records.

The investigation included several interviews with victims, witnesses, and Curtis himself, police said.

Vernon police on Thursday were asking members of the public who may have information on Curtis to call them at 860-872-9126.
