VERNON, CT — Fire officials cited a cleaning chemical snafu as the cause for a hazardous materials emergency at a local apartment complex Friday.

The incident took place at the Florence Mills Apartments on West Main Street, fire officials said.

Improperly mixed cleaning chemicals crated a haz-mat situation, they added.

Crews removed the container and the area was vented, fire officials said.
