College Achievements By Students From Vernon

VERNON, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

• Nearly 100 students are participating in Eastern Connecticut State University's highly selective University Honors Program this 2019-20 academic year. Among the students are four from Vernon: Joyce Figueroa, who majors in Communication and English and is in her third year with the program; Jarod Werner, a Political Science and History major in his first year; Lauren Dionne, a Secondary Education and English major in her first year; and Holly Fischer, a Biology major in her second year. The Honors Program accepts highly motivated and academically driven students. When accepted into the program, students are required to complete several additional classes, including a capstone course in which students complete a thesis based around their academic major.

Goodwin College, East Hartford CT

• Goodwin College's President's List for the summer 2019 session includes 230 students, all of whom scored a perfect 4.0 GPA. Honorees from Vernon are Tonya Bailey, Susan Harris, Jennifer Murphy, Vanessa Nelson, Morgan Sankow and Marsha Smith.
