Community Rallying To Help Vernon Police Officer Whose Home Was Damaged By Storm

VERNON, CT — There has been a wave community support over the past two weeks after a holiday weekend storm severely damaged the home of a Vernon police officer.

As of Friday afternoon, $4,020 had been raised for Sgt. Joshua Wells to help put his home back together via a GoFundMe campaign.

During a storm in July 4, a large tree to fall onto Wells' home and vehicle. The damage to the home was so extensive that it was deemed uninhabitable.

The vehicle was declared a total loss.

Said the GoFundMe, "As a result, Josh, his wife, and their two dogs have been displaced and are currently living in a hotel while they navigate the long process of rebuilding. Much of the cost for temporary housing and other immediate expenses is being paid out of pocket."

Wells has been on the job at the Vernon Police Department since 2013. He has served as a patrol officer, a school resource officer, a field training Officer, a narcotics officer and is now a sergeant.

"He has spent 19 years serving others and is widely respected for his professionalism, compassion, and dedication to the community," the GoFundMe narrative says. "Josh is the type of person who would never ask for help, but now he needs ours."
