VERNON, CT — Drinking water systems serving Vernon and run by the Connecticut Water Company have maintained their quality over the past year, according to the utility's latest quality reports, which were released this week.

The reports show that all of the utility's 60-plus systems deliver water to customers that meets, or surpasses, state and federal requirements for drinking water. The reports summarize water quality testing done in 2022 and include information on how water quality is protected and what the company is required to test for under the Safe Drinking Water Act.

The reports also include information on how susceptible the systems are to potential contamination by microbial and/or chemical contaminates. The susceptibility ranking is assigned using information collected by the Department of Public Health in 2003.

Connecticut Water tests and treats the water to ensure it complies with drinking water standards. Over 170,000 water quality tests are conducted each year for more than 120 water quality parameters —that’s an average of more than 400 tests each day. Water is tested prior to treatment, during the treatment process, in the distribution system, and at a random sample of customer homes. Water quality samples are taken to state certified laboratories and test results are submitted to Connecticut Department of Public Health’s Drinking Water Division.
