Court Triples Bond In Vernon Home Invasion Case

A defendant in a Vernon home invasion case was in custody on a six-figure bond Thursday.

VERNON, CT — The bond for a man accused of invading a Vernon residence tripled on Wednesday after his arraignment at Rockville Superior Court.

Walter Bonner, 40, of Hartford, was arrested at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday after the incident at a High Street home, records show. He was charged with home invasion, first-degree criminal trespass, criminal attempt at sixth-degree larceny, disorderly conduct and second-degree breach of peace, according to a report.

Bonner appeared in court Wednesday and his initial $50,000 bond was increased to $150,000, judicial records show. He was still in custody Thursday and is due back before a judge on Sept. 9, records show.

The incident took place at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to a report. Bonner was located in a bedroom and arrested without incident, but police did find a box cutter in a pocket of his pants, according to a report.

Bonner had moved out of the residence and was no longer welcome there, according to a report. He is accused of using a credit card to tamper with a lock and open a door to the home.

Three people were inside at the time, police said. Bonner is accused of arguing with one of them and removing a drawer and rummaging through it inside a bedroom, according to a report.
