Damaged Roof Over Vernon Bank Inspected Tuesday
A section of roof over the drive-up area of a Vernon bank was inspected Tuesday after it collapsed.
VERNON, CT, — Municipal building inspectors examined the roof over the drive-up area of a Vernon bank on Tuesday afternoon to see what caused its insides to collapse.
A full report will then be compiled soon, but it asppears age and wear contributed to the collapse, officials said.
The 40-year-old roof section was made of plaster and fasteners were rusted, an inspector said.

The United Bank branch on Park Street was open for regular business Tuesday after being closed Monday. The drive-up window was closed and fenced off, leaving the Lafayette branch on Route 30 as the closest option for those not wishing to leave their vehicles.
The entire inner layer of the overhang fell onto both drive-up lanes on Sunday afternoon at the Park Street branch, leaving them covered in rubble. The debris was cleared by Monday afternoon. The drive-up will be closed indefinitely, a bank spokesman said Tuesday.

No injuries were reported. The lanes only serve The automated teller machine is located in a room inside the building.
