Delays On 2 Vernon Roads Expected Due To Paving Project

VERNON, CT — Drivers in Vernon could encounter delays and road closures as milling and paving work gets underway on two local roads.

Milling began Monday, Aug. 10, on Center Road and Vernon Summit Road, according to the Town of Vernon.

Both roads will be milled from curb to curb before being paved.

Each project could take about two weeks, although the schedule may change depending on weather and contractor availability, town officials said.

Work is scheduled to take place daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hours could be extended into the evening if crews encounter unexpected issues.

Roads may be closed to through traffic while work is underway.

Local traffic will be allowed through, but motorists should expect delays, according to the town.

Emergency vehicles will have access at all times.

Town officials warned that travel could be difficult while roads are being milled.

On-street parking will not be permitted during work periods.

Rafferty Fine Grading is handling the milling, while Galasso Paving will complete the paving after milling is finished.

The timing of the paving will also depend on weather and contractor availability.

The project could include replacement of curbs, catch basin tops, and driveway aprons where deemed necessary by the Vernon Public Works Department's lead road foreman.
