Demolition Work Begins On Downtown Rockville Property

A property on Park Street in Vernon is being cleared.

VERNON, CT — Demolition work on a seemingly misplaced old house on Park Street in the Rockville section of Vernon began Friday.

The old house actually had a combination of commercial and residential elements to it, town officials said. It sat across from Rockville Superior Court and next to the former Rockville Bank building.

It had fallen into disrepair and the town acquired it several months ago, officials said. It could not be saved without unjustified expense, officials said.

Town officials have not officially designated a use for the property. Parking at town hall can be scarce on busy evenings and days, but officials would not address speculation about that particular use. It sits close to the Vernon Town Hall Annex.
