Discarded Cigarette Links Scooter Driver to Vernon Salon Burglary
A Waterford man was charged for a salon burglary in Vernon.

VERNON, CT — A cigarette discarded at a motor scooter traffic stop linked a Waterford man to a burglary at a Vernon hair salon, police said.
Scott Schelhofer, 33, was arrested on a warrant Thursday for the Sept. 15 incident at the Cost Cutters salon in Vernon, according to an arrest report.
Police said they collected DNA samples after the incident and Schelhofer became a suspect.

Later in the day, police pulled over Schelhofer for a scooter violation. After he was pulled over, he threw away a cigarette in view of an officer, who, in turn, retrieved it as evidence, according to an arrest report.
A warrant was issued this week and Schelhofer was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary. according to a report.
