Discarded Wood Stove Ashes Blamed For Vernon Brush Fire

VERNON, CT — Ashes from a wood stove were the cause of a brush fire that broke out in a Vernon yard Saturday, authorities said.

The fire was on Warren Ave., according to an incident report.

The smoldering ashes were discarded near some leaves and the leaves caught fire, according to an incident report.

The land abuts the Rails-to-Trails system in Vernon.

The Vernon Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire, authorities said.
