Dog Put Down After Fatal Altercation With Other Dog In Vernon: Police

Vernon police said one dog was killed by another canine Monday in a local neighborhood.

VERNON, CT — A dog was euthanized Monday after it bit two humans and killed another dog during an incident in a Vernon neighborhood, police said.

At 11:02 a.m., police and an animal control officer responded to the area of Beverley Road after receiving a call about a "dog attack." When they arrived at the scene, officers encountered a man and a woman who had sustained bites from an a neighborhood dog, identified as an American bull dog, according to an incident report.

Police also found a dog that appeared to have died as a result of injuries caused by the American bull dog, according to an incident report.

A Vernon EMS crew responded to the scene to evaluate the injuries but the man and woman declined to be transported, according to an incident report.

The dog was initially taken into animal control custody and the owner was cooperating with the investigation, police said. Later Monday, the dog was euthanized, according to an incident report.

No charges had been filed as of Tuesday morning. and the case remained under investigation, police said.

According to the American Kennel Club, the average weight of a male American bulldog is 75 to 100 pounds and 60 to 80 pounds for a female. The dog that was killed was not identified by police.
