Donkey Home Safe After Late-Night Stroll in Vernon

Delilah the Donkey was found hanging around a Vernon home on Thursday.

VERNON, CT — A bored donkey apparently decided to take a late-night stroll around a Vernon neighborhood on Thursday night, but was back in her barn, tucked in and safe, after a short time, police said.

Vernon police spokesman Lt. William Meier said the initial call about Delilah the Donkey came into the dispatch center at about 11:30 p.m. A resident at 1 Rolling View Drive said Delilah was hanging around the garage and front lawn. Delilah did not have any identification on her, but officers determined she lived at some acreage at 72 Lake St., according to police records.

When officers first approached Delilah, she began to run away and a short foot pursuit ensued, Meier said. Vernon Animal Control personnel and officers were able to corral Delilah after a short time, Meier said. She was then returned home, he added.
