Driver Charged After Abandoning Wrecked Car In Vernon
A New Britain man wound up with five charges after wrecking his car on Route 83 and then abandoning it, police said.

VERNON, CT — A New Britain man wound up with five charges after wrecking his car on Route 83 and then abandoning it, police said.
The incident took place at 1:58 a.m. 0n Jan. 17, according to a police report. Te initial call came in as a disabled vehicle stopped on Route 83, but when police arrived, they discovcered the car had crashed near the Pitkin Road intersection and the driver was nowhere to be found, according to a report.
Police located the driver, 27-year-old Weslie Mendez, walking north on Route 83, according to a report. He was charged with evading, improper parking, failure to drive in the proper lane, driving while under suspension and interfering, according to a report. He is due in court on Jan. 29, according to a report.

An arrest warrant had been issued for Mendez out of New Britain, police said.
