Driver Gets Vehicular Homicide Charge In Vernon Scooter Crash
The driver of a pickup that collided with a scooter in Vernon is facing a vehicular homicide charge, police said.

VERNON, CT — Though blinding sun seemed to be a factor in the crash, the driver of a pickup truck that collided with a motorized scooter over the summer on Route 30 was charged with vehicular homicide, according to an arrest report.
Kevin DeLorge, was charged on a warrant with both vehicular homicide and failure to yield while making a left-hand turn.
The crash took place at 5:56 a.m. on June 16 on Route 30 near the the Exit 64 ramps to Interstate 84, police records show. Sunrise was 5:16 a.m. that day, according to the warrant.

DeLorge was driving a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup and heading west, according to the warrant. The scooter was heading east, records show.
The scooter driver, later identified as 70-year-old Owen Wright of South Windsor, continued across the intersection on Route 30 as the pickup began heading left onto the highway ramps, according to the warrant. A witness said Wright appeared to not notice the truck because of the blinding sun as it turned and the scooter hit the truck on its passenger side, a witness told police.

The truck was also angled toward the sun, according to the warrant.
Wright was thrown from the scooter, reports show. He was pronounced dead at Rockville General Hospital a short time later, according to there warrant.
The warrant outlines a police reports that determined though the sun was a factor, DeLorg did not yield to the vehicle continuing straight through the intersection.
DeLorge posted a $50,000 bond and is due in court Feb. 15, records show.
