VERNON, CT — A Tolland man was given a July court date to answer charges related to a screaming tirade on a Vernon road that led to a drunken driving charge and a broken light pole, police said.

Police released details on the May 4 incident this week.

At 7:04 p.m. that day, Vernon police received a call about a white Dodge pickup that was "swerving all over the road" on Route 31, a report says. The driver was yelling obscenities at passing motorists, according to a report.

The truck was located by police in the nearby McDonald's parking lot and the driver, identified as 38-year-old David Edward Blinn, was "passed out" in his vehicle, a report indicates. Blinn drove into a light pole after officers woke him up, according to a report.

He refused to take a "chemical" sobriety test during booking, police said.
