Driver Tried to Use Navigation Program Before Slamming into Vernon Cop Car: Report

The cruiser had another car pulled over when it was hit from behind, a report indicates.

VERNON, CT — A driver who slammed into the back of a police cruiser on Route 83 early Sunday morning said she was trying to use a navigation program on her cell phone, according to an accident report.

A marked police cruiser with its lights on was in the right-hand southbound lane in the midst of a traffic stop just shy of the Spare Time bowling center, according to a crash report. Route 83 consists of two lanes each was and is lighted.

Another car then slammed into the back end of the cruiser and the cruiser was pushed into the car it had pulled over, according to a crash report.

The driver told police she was looking at her phone and trying to use a navigation system.

She was issued an infraction.
