Drug Charges Levied Against Man After Police Pursuit in Vernon

A Hartford man is facing a half-dozen charges after trying to run from police when spotted smoking crack, a report indicates.

VERNON, CT — A Hartford man is facing a half-dozen charges after trying to run from police when spotted smoking crack, a report indicates.

The incident began at 7:15 p.m., when a plainclothes ofrficer saw a man, later identified as 32-year-old Damien Garcia, smoking crack in a vehicle on Maple Street, according to a report.

Garcia fled the scene and was later found on foot at the intersection of Old Town and Wilson Lane, according to a report.

A report incidates he was charged with possession of a controlled substance for the crack and for possessing drugs near a school for being near both Maple Street School and Rockville High School. He was charged with reckless driving and interfering for the pursuit, according to a report.
