Drunken Scooter Incident Leaves Rider With Charges In Vernon: Police
DUI arrests continue to keep police in Vernon busy.

VERNON, CT — A drunken driver on a scooter was arrested after cruising through a stop sign in Vernon, police said.
Police released a report on the June 4 incident Wednesday.
At 6:39 p.m. that day, officers on patrol observed a man who was driving a motorized scooter blow through a stop sign at Spring and West Main streets, according top an arrest report.

The driver was a 65-year-old Vernon resident and exhibited signs of impairment when police stopped him for questioning, according to an arrest report.
The man then failed sobriety tests and was taken into custody on the stop sign charge and for driving under the influence charge, according to an arrest report.

It was another example of DUI arrests spiking in Vernon. As of mid-May, there were 98 recorded drunken driving arrests in town, according to VPS statistics obtained by Patch via a freedom of information request. That number, considering it represents about a quarter of the year, is on pace to more than double previous few years' totals.
In 2025, DUI arrest incidents totaled 147.
In 2024, the number was 152.
In 2023, the total was 130.
Vernon's arrest log shows several more made in recent days, aside from the cooter incident.
