DUI Suspect Found Walking On Route 30 After 112 MPH Jaunt On I-84

VERNON, CT — A suspected drunken driver was found walking along Route 30 last week after a 112 mph jaunt along Interstate 84 in Vernon, state police said.

At 1:46 a.m. on Dec. 20, state police were conducting an "aggressive driving enforcement" detail on I-84 near Exit 64, and observed a silver Hyundai Tucson heading their way on the eastbound side of the highway at a high rate of speed, according to an arrest report.

The Hyundai was first clocked at 96 mph, then at 112 mph as troopers attempted to pull it over, according to an arrest report. After breaking off the pursuit, the vehicle was located by state police a short time later in a parking lot off Exit 67, according to an arrest report.

The driver, a 52-year-old from Vernon, was located walking along state Route 30 a short time later and arrested, state police said. After failing field sobriety tests, he was charged with engaging police in a pursuit, driving under the influence, reckless driving, falsifying a marker plate and insurance and registration violations.

He is due in court on Jan 11.
