VERNON, CT — Even the bananas in Vernon's school lunches are getting into the remote learning thing.

Friday was dubbed "Positivity Banana Day" in town as school officials ended yet another successful week of handing out free breakfasts and lunches to students stuck home during the coronavirus closures.

The banana messages were part of an effort to "keep spirits up" school officials said. Students in Vernon have been practicing online and remote learning for about a week now.

Messages — written on the banana peels in perfect penmanship — went from "school rocks" to "your teacher misses you" to "eat more fruit."

Even those strict physical education teachers were in the act with a message to "do 30 jumping jacks."
