Two expired registration plates led to two drug-related arrests in Vernon last week.

VERNON, CT — Two expired registration plates led to two drug-related arrests in Vernon last week, reports show.

At 12:10 a.m. last Thursday, an officer on routine patrol noticed a tan Volkswagen Jetta travel past him with a plate that expired on Oct. 19.

He pulled the car over at the intersection of Regan and Center roads and, after the driver granted a search consent, located several bags of heroin, according to a report. The passenger had heroin in her purse as well.

Joshua Dugas, 19, of South Windsor, and 20-year-old Erika Fitzin, of Vernon, were both charged with possession of a controlled substance, according to a report.

Two days earlier, at 4:52 p.m., the same officer noticed an expired registration on a Nissan Maxima and pulled it over along the 200 block of Hartford Turnpike. Pedro Nieves, 37, of Manchester was arrested for having cocaine and less than a half-ounce of marijuana, ac cording to a report.
