Field of Flags Offering a Memorial to Those who Gave the Last Full Measure of Devotion

The flags will be on display until Sept. 13.

Several motorists passing the white church in Vernon Center have commented that the Field of Flags has an Arlington National Cemetery feel to it.

Volunteers have placed a flag on the First Congregational Church lawn for each serviceman and woman who has died in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.

The Field of Flags has 6,579 flags in all.

Church officials said it is "one way to remember each individual, as well as their families and friends, in prayer at our church."

The Field of Flags was dedicated on Sunday during the 10 a.m. worship service. The Field of Flags will be on display until Thursday, Sept. 13, church officials said.
