Final Suspect Charged In Vernon Home Invasion Case

The final suspect in a home invasion on Spring Street in Vernon has been charged.

VERNON, CT — The final suspect in a year-old home invasion investigation has been charged, Vernon police said Tuesday.

The previous day, Abner Orlando Ortiz, 23, whose listed address is in New Britain, was taken into custody by Vernon police, according to a report.

Ortiz had already been in the custody of Hartford police after being shot in the shoulder Monday evening. His injuries were not life-threatening and he had been relased from an area hospital, according to a report.

Ortiz had an outstanding warrant issued in December of 2017 from a Nov. 5 attempted home invasion on Spring Street in Vernon. He was the last remaining suspect sought in the case, police said.

He was booked in Vernon and charged with conspiracy to commit home invasion, conspiracy to commit second-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit fifth-degree larceny, attempt to commit home invasion, attempt to commit szecond-degree robbery and attempt to commit fifth-degree larceny.
