Finishing Touches Being Put On New Rockville High School Field
The new RHS artificial turf field is about ready.

VERNON, CT — With the Ram logo and piping now in place on the sidelines, a large R in the center of the field and the mulch put down, the new artificial turf field at Rockville is just about ready.
The Aug. 15 target seemed realistic with just some grooming left on the field and the track surface to be placed.

The total cost of the complex is $1,549,171, funded by available cash. vTo pay for the field, a total of $1,129,462 will be taken out of the capital non-recurring fund for education for a Field Turf surface and maintenance plan. The balance — $419,709 for a new track and field surface — will come from the municipal general fund.
Vernon Superintendent of Schools Joseph Macary said an artificial surface will add 30 to 35 days of usage to the complex because of fewer drainage and weather-related issues.
RHS Athletic Director Jeff Farrell wanted to remind residents that the track is off limits to the public until the project is finished. Several would-be walkers and runners had to be turned away, he said.
