Fire Alarm Forces Rockville High School Evacuation

School buses were delayed as a result of a fire alarm at Rockville High School.

VERNON, CT — A fire alarm went off at Rockville High School as students and were getting ready for dismissal, Superintendent of Schools Joseph Macary said.

The alarm was located near the art and science win at RHS and the building had to be evacuated, Macary said. It went off at 1:55 p.m., Macary said.

There was never any sign of fire and no one was ever in danger, Macary said.

The evacuation spilled into dismissal time and students were left outside without their belongings, he said. Firefighters made a sweep of the building and re-opened it quickly.

Buses began rolling at about 2:35 p.m., after the building was declared secure at 2:30, Macary said.

School system buses were delayed about 30 minutes, he said.

Fire and school official are investigating why the alarm went off.
