Fire Breaks Out Inside Vernon School Building

VERNON, CT — A small fire broke out inside Maple Street School in Vernon early Wednesday morning, police and fire officials said.

Police said the initial call from a fire alarm came in just after midnight.

Vernon Fire Marshal Ray Walker said the fire was isolated to a closet inside a room at the school. A fixture, damaged over time, appears to be the culprit, he said.

A storage box caught fire and it only took "a few gallons of water" to put it out, Walker said. The situation was under control in minutes, he said.
