Fire Destroys Small Apartment In Vernon
A fire rendered a small building containing an apartment and garage "a total loss" Saturday morning.

VERNON, CT — A fire destroyed a small building containing an apartment and garage on West Street Saturday morning, according to Vernon police.
The property at 244 West Street, near the Vernon Center Middle School, contains two homes. The main house was unaffected, but the apartment is "a total loss," police said.
The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. Multiple cats were rescued from the building and were treated on scene; some were taken to a local veterinary hospital for further care, fire officials said.

Members of the Vernon Fire Department tactical air unit were among the firefighters working at the scene. Eversource Energy was also called in.
No injuries were reported.
