Fire Rips Through Vernon Apartment Building

About a third of a Vernon apartment building was damaged by fire on Sunday, authorities said.

VERNON, CT — A Sunday fire in Vernon damaged about a third of a Regan Street apartment building on Sunday night, but firefighters managed to save the rest of the complex in a 30-minute battle.

The Red Cross said it was assisting three adults and two children who were displaced.

The call at 17 Regan St, the Vernon Pines apartments, came in just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday. It quickly became all hands in Vernon fighting what Assistant Fire Chief Robert Babcock called heavy fire and smoke on the lower level. An Ellington crew was also called to the scene and mutual aid partners covered the stations in Vernon, he said.
