Flurry Of Vernon Drunken Driving Incidents Keep Cops Busy
Drunken driving incidents seemed to come in droves over the past few days in Vernon and most involved drivers close to their own homes.

VERNON, CT — Vernon police had a succession of six drunken driving calls in high traffic and population areas heading into and during the Veterans Day weekend.
Police said the sequence was a "high volume" of drunken driving incidents and several occurred close to where the drivers lived.

- On Sunday at 3:45 p.m., a 47-year-old Vernon man was charged with driving under the influence and a lane violation following a stop along the 100 block of West Street. The man lived abut 2 miles from the incident, according to a police report.
- At 2:35 a.m. on Saturday, a 26-year-old female was pulled over at the driveway to her Hockanum Boulevard apartment complex and charged with a traffic control violation and driving under the influence.
- On Friday, a 62-year-old Ellington Woman was pulled over and charged with driving under the influence near 695 Talcottville Road, 1.4 miles from her residence.
- At 1:28 a.m. Friday, a car traveling in front of a Vernon police cruiser on Phoenix Street being driven by a 24-year-old Tolland man was pulled over after an officer saw it cross over the center line multiple times, according to an arrest report. The man then failed a sobriety test and was charged with driving under the influence and a lane violation.
- At 10:09 p.m. Thursday, an officer witnessed a 28-year-old Vernon man speeding and swerving on Union Street and pulled his vehicle over. He was charged with DUI, traveling unreasonably fast and a lane violation. He lives less than a mile away on West Main Street, according an an arrest report.
- At 5:03 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to the Reservoir Road McDonald's and they found a car being driven by a 49-year-old Middletown man teetering on the curb in the parking lot with the tires spinning, according to an arrest report. He was charged with drunken driving.
