Former Vernon Town Administrator Named To Mashantucket Exec Position

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation has formally named former Vernon Town Administrator Michael Purcaro to an executive position.

VERNON, CT — It's official. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation has formally announced the appointment of former Vernon Town Administrator Michael Purcaro as its chief of government administration.

Purcaro announced in August that he was stepping down from the Vernon position later this month for "an amazing public service opportunity," while adding his new employer "will announce it accordingly."

Purcaro was appointed to the Vernon position in September 2017 and before that served as the school system's finance director. His last day in Vernon was Aug. 23.

At the tribe, Purcaro was "brought on to support the tribe in reaching their goals of economic diversity, exceptional health and human services, equity in education, and improved government infrastructure," officials for the nation said.

Purcaro will "provide strategic support for the Tribal Council’s goals and objectives,” Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Chairman Rodney Butler Butler said.

He added, "Michael Purcaro is an exceptional leader who will work to enhance and
strengthen our government processes, programs and initiatives. We look forward to him leveraging his expertise for the betterment of our tribal government and community."

With more than 25 years of experience in government administration at the local, state and federal levels, Purcaro will guide, direct, and implement key aspects of the tribe's strategic plan, and will lead the Tribe’s government services and infrastructure departments. Having started in public health.

"Michael’s passion lies in ensuring that community members have access and opportunity to build and maintain safe, healthy and gratifying lives. In addition to his work in public health, Michael has demonstrated success in public education, grants administration, risk management, emergency services and communications," nation officials said.
