Fourth Of July Stabbing In Vernon Leaves 69-Year-Old Man With Charges

A late-night holiday stabbing at a Vernon home sent a person to an area hospital, police said.

VERNON, CT — A Fourth of July Stabbing at a home in Vernon left a 69-year-old man in the lockup overnight on a high bond and a person of about the same age injured, police said.

The stabbing took place at 11:04 p.m. Tuesday at a residence on Cemetery Road in Vernon. Officers located at the home someone who had sustained multiple stab wounds and the person was taken to an area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to police reports.

Gary Gibson, who lives at the address, was arrested at the scene and charged with first-degree assault of an elderly person, third-degree assault of an elderly person and second-degree breach of peace, according to police reports.

Gibson was held overnight on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Rockville Superior court.
