Vernon Town Administrator Michael Purcaro said there was no danger to the public. Police and fire officials at the scene said a construction crew at the rear of the property hit a 2-inch gas line, which caused the leak.

I initial efforts were being made to cap the break, rather than replacing the entire pipe, police and fire officials said.
