Giving Back, Velvet Touch Style.

“Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.” ~ Muhammad Ali
On Sunday April 28th my salon, The Velvet Touch Hair Salon, in Vernon had the pleasure of hosting our third annual "We're Hair Because We Care" cut-a-thon to benefit the American Cancer Society and Pantene Beautiful Lengths.  It was a beautiful afternoon for the event - and was full of laughter, positivity, and generosity.  Between prebooked appointments and walkins for haircuts that day, all of our appointments were taken with seven of our talented stylists who volunteered their time on this day!!

My business partner, Beth, and I spent our time running the front end - meeting many first time clients, accepting donations (both money and hair!! :)), and making sure that it was a fun and pleasant experience for everyone involved.  I was deeply touched by everyone who came out to support these two great causes which are near and dear to our hearts, but even more than that was being able to hear some of the personal stories from those who came in that day.  Struggles with cancer and conquering the disease, either personally or by family member, and the camaraderie and care between the individuals (who had never met before) is something which still warms my heart.  An added bonus and reminder of what the true meaning of giving back is.

At the end of the event, we had 36 ponytails to donate to Pantene Beautiful Lengths as well as $923.87 to the American Cancer Society. Due to having hosted this event previously, we had been collecting ponytails throughout the year from clients raising the total number of ponytails being sent to 90!! The ladies of the VT want to send a big thank you to everyone who came down to support this day...stay tuned for our fourth annual next year - we hope to make it even bigger and better!!
